Miss Beige

TAKING THE STREETS

Miss Beige is the alter ego of Madrid-based artist and performer Ana Esmith. Created in 2015, this character uses performance, photography, and video through an "anti-posing terrorism" approach to deliver social critique and challenge contemporary aesthetic standards, particularly in the era of social media. The character is characterized by her beige attire, a blank and expressionless face, and the recurring presence of a hammer hidden inside her handbag.

Her head-to-toe beige look offers an image very different from what we are used to seeing on screens. Far from hypersexualization, Miss Beige emphasizes the most ordinary and even boring aspects of our daily lives. Through her performance practice on Instagram, Miss Beige proposes a deconstruction of contemporary female identity.

In this age of obsession with images and their narratives, hers is a reflection on the boundaries between who we are and the image of who we are supposed to be. For this reason, she vindicates ordinary and anonymous identities, launching a critique as sharp as it is ironic against the forced poses, idyllic settings, and perfect lives that flood social media.
