Festival Schedule
FOCUS, the main weekend of the La Nuu Festival, remains at the same location. This year, the programming will also take place at the Ateneu Municipal de Rubí. On Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd, and Sunday 4th of October, FOCUS will feature a concentrated lineup of activities tied to the exhibited works. On the first day of the FOCUS weekend, we celebrate the opening of our twelfth edition, featuring an intervention by photographer Manel Esclusa, an evening filled with a DJ set and great food.

Crossing the Skin. Lecture and projection by Manel Esclusa.
Photographer Manel Esclusa will review his career by presenting his most iconic works, characterized by pushing the exploration of the effects of light and darkness to their limits. Finally, he will focus in greater detail on the SCANTAC project, which can be enjoyed this year at La Nuu.
Manel Esclusa (Vic, Catalonia, 1952) has been described as the photographer of shadows. In his photographic universe, the image does not function as a mere mirror of the visible world, but as a tool for opening up to what remains hidden. Since his beginnings in the 1970s, his career has developed as a visual and conceptual investigation into the polarity between light and darkness. For Esclusa, photography is nothing more than a way of showing what we cannot see. Thus, photographing does not consist in documenting external reality, but in revealing the deep and invisible dimension of perception. His style is characterized by visual subtlety and experimentation with space and light.
Among his most outstanding series is Naus (1983–1996), in which he forms a reflection on the night as a creative space and articulates relationships of opposition based on the object reference of the ship; Aiguallum (2000), a series that uses the reflection of light on water to generate abstract and poetic images. Another key series is Urbs de Nit (1984–2015), where he portrays cities from a dreamlike perspective, emphasizing the idea of the invisible. Manel Esclusa has recently exhibited at major institutions such as the Museu de l'Art de la Pell (Vic), Centro Internacional Niemeyer (Avilés), and Centro de Arte Alcobendas (Alcobendas). He has taught at the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya and currently teaches at EINA Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, where he has influenced generations of photographers.

And to wrap up the day, a food area featuring Tacos Tacos and a DJ zone with Shake a Leg. Shake a Leg is a collective of DJs and vinyl collectors made up of Davo Kan, DJ Brazo, and Acme Funk. They love playing Black music—Latin, soul, funk, afro, Brazilian, gipsy, roots—all while honoring the original vinyl format.

This year we are returning with the photobook and independent publishing fair at Ateneu Municipal, which we first launched in 2025. The BOOKNUP section continues to champion the photographic and visual avant-garde in book, zine, and self-publishing formats. Various independent publishers, magazines, and art collectives sustain, out of pure activism, a cultural sphere that excels in its offerings.
We will feature the participation of the following publishers, magazines, collectives, and authors: Jiser, Fac Zine, Editorial Mapa, David Salcedo, Toni Jerez, Sonhoras, L'automàtica, Anna Gali, Agus Busom, Ángel Herranz, Mariela Sancari, Revista Vecins, Moreno&Soria, Suzenako, Libros Menguantes, IEFC, Llamp Edicions, and Henry Hill Books (Enric Montes).
This year we are opening a new section at the fair where photographers will also be able to sell prints of their work.
Attendees will be able to look at, touch, and discover the absolute latest in photographic creation and book design.

Exhibition of Children's Photobooks curated by Jordi Oms

Children are exposed to images from a very early age and also participate in their visual production. Although photobooks have proliferated in recent years, publications aimed at children remain scarce and, in many cases, visually unexperimental from a photographic standpoint. This situation creates an opportunity to establish an intergenerational dialogue, explore alternative narrative formats, and address contemporary themes.
The exhibition Tickling the Photobook proposes dedicated space to open up—and destabilize—the question of what we understand by children's photobooks through a display of works spanning diverse themes and eras. It invites us to imagine less rigid visual languages and reflect on the vantage point from which we view children's art books, tickling the genre to push it out of its comfort zone.
PAREIDOLIA PHOTOMATON. Art installation by the edRA school

Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon in which our brain perceives faces, shapes, or familiar figures in inanimate objects or random patterns where there are actually none. Our brains are equipped with specific circuits that activate to process visual information related to faces differently from other data. This structure is called the fusiform gyrus, and in a matter of hundredths of a second, it makes us see faces both where they exist and where they do not. In the latter case, we cannot help but have the strong sensation of looking at someone, even if that someone is actually a tap or a building facade.
Pareidolia Photomaton is an interactive installation created by students from edRA Escola d'Art i Disseny de Rubí. The project invites viewers to reflect on this psychological phenomenon through the opposite approach: the photo booth takes a picture of our face and, using generative artificial intelligence, creates a portrait of our soul's landscape composed of various inanimate objects.

Attendees are able to ask questions and share their views and reflections. These walks through the streets of Rubí also offer a closer look at the participating photographers' work and provide a welcome opportunity for visitors from outside Rubí to stroll around and explore the city.

Stereoscopic photography (or 3D) is a technique that creates the illusion of depth by capturing two images of the same scene from slightly different vantage points—mimicking the distance between human eyes—so that when viewed through special 3D glasses, each eye receives its corresponding image and the brain merges them into a single picture with real volume and depth.
Special glasses with different colored lenses for each eye are what allow these photos to be viewed as anaglyphs: two-dimensional images capable of creating a three-dimensional effect.
Participants in this workshop will get to experiment with this technique and take home their own individual or group portrait.
The Grup Fotogràfic El Gra de Rubí celebrates its 60th anniversary this 2026, following six decades of history dedicated to photography and the city's culture since its founding in 1966.

Exhibition curator Jordi Oms will lead a guided tour explaining the selection of children's photobooks featured in the showcase.
Jordi Oms is a graphic designer and visual artist specializing in editorial projects. As a visual artist, he uses photography, drawing, and poetic text to explore the body-territory through a situated trace, experimenting with narrative processes via artist publications. As a designer, he focuses mainly on cultural projects, with a special interest in those involving interdisciplinary collaboration. He directs Llamp Edicions, an independent publishing house that explores the materiality of print and conceives publishing as an artistic endeavor.

Philosopher Andrea Soto Calderón and artist Mariela Sancari will engage in a conversation about their latest publication, Sudor, a visual essay that explores the ways in which sweat, as an agent, shapes interactions with other bodies and their environment.
From the first mention in the Bible of the relationship between effort and the sweat produced by labor—“the sweat of your brow”—to Marx's critical references to the sweating system—a precarious labor regime that persists to this day—; from the ritual function and cosmological significance of sweat to the invention of deodorant as a pathologizing measure, this research tackles multiple perspectives and asks: how can we think with and through sweat?

The history of photography is also the history of the various media used to display photographic images. Until recently, museum walls, magazine pages, and books were the usual media for contemplating photographs. Solid images have dematerialized, relocating to the surface of screens.
This new and compelling ecosystem in the life of images has fostered one of La Nuu’s key sections: SCREEN.
The SCREEN section is dedicated to photographic works in audiovisual format and is tied to an international open call featuring a €1,000 prize for photographic works designed to be viewed on a screen.
The 10 selected works will be presented during La Nit SCREEN, after which the jury will announce its verdict live in front of the audience.
The jury is composed of renowned professionals, including curator Natasha Christia, screenwriter and filmmaker Jo Sol, and photographer and editor Emilie Hallard.
LIMBO. ENTRELLAÇ ART RESIDENCY & CREATION GRANT

LIMBO by Générique Mardi is a live musical performance set within a video installation, centered on a reflection on the party as a political space, located in the tension between tradition and emancipation. The projected video images feature staged scenes—a kind of still life filmed in the early morning following a fictional party—interwoven with archival footage of traditional Menorcan and Occitan dances, along with mechanically executed tutorials of party-related gestures.
Juliette Pym and Bonella Holloway, both members of the musical group Générique Mardi, were the winners of the Entrellaç creation and residency grant.
The cultural association Ull per Ull, organizer of La Nuu Festival, in collaboration with the association Es Far Cultural from Menorca and the Maison Salvan (Centre d’art et résidence d’artistes de Labège), launched the Entrellaç project.
This artistic creation, residency, and traveling exhibition project was made possible thanks to a grant awarded through the Euroregion 2024 call for projects.

Générique Mardi was formed in late 2022 in Toulouse from the meeting of Juliette Pym (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1991) and Bonella Holloway (London, 1991). Both originally come from the contemporary art world—a background that echoes in their musical approach, which blends influences of no wave, spoken word, and the French alternative scene infused with a lo-fi pop spirit. Simple, repetitive melodies are built around lyrics that offer a raw perspective on anxiety, addictions, and emotions.

CLOSER is La Nuu's portfolio review. Through this initiative, the festival aims to connect emerging photographers with key professionals from the photographic and art worlds, both nationally and internationally.
This year's reviewers are Nerea Campo (writer, curator, and co-director of the Ex Abrupto festival), Diana Padrón (researcher, educator, and curator), Mariela Sancari (photographer and founder of FOLIO, the photobook collection at the Centro de la Imagen library in Mexico City), Marta Dahó (curator, researcher, and educator), and Flor Vacherand (cultural programmer and curator of photographic exhibitions at Centre Cívic Pati Llimona).

A la deriva ("Adrift") is a children's photography workshop where play, absurd humor, and imagination take center stage. Using recycled materials (cardboard, plastic, stones, branches, etc.), participants will build an initial shape. Then, guided by random prompts, they will receive new instructions encouraging them to transform the piece. Each modification will be photographed, creating a visual sequence in which shapes evolve unpredictably and can turn into a character, a setting, or an unexpected abstraction. To conclude, all the images will be printed into a concertina book, and a copy will be handed to each participant.
Jordi Oms is a graphic designer and visual artist specializing in identities and editorial projects for cultural fields. From this platform, he develops art directions based on strong concepts, experimentation with visual languages, research into popular culture, and the treatment of typography as imagery. With a background that includes teaching at higher education design schools and conducting workshops, his practice extends to collective and self-managed initiatives: he is part of the photographic group Juan Nadie, actively participates in the associative print shop L'Automàtica in Barcelona, and directs Llamp Edicions, a publishing project through which he explores editing and the materiality of print as artistic creation.

POLAR B. CHASER. CLOSING SHOW

As Professor Shorofsky used to say in Fame—probably Polar B. Chaser's first crush: "That's not music, Martelli, that's masturbation."
A drum machine and a synthesizer to his guitar looper, fully determined this time to take it to the stage. Letting himself get carried away by these new gadgets, Cuchilla's stoner-punk sound took an inevitable turn toward electronica. He experiments without any specific criteria, drawing inspiration from all the music that has influenced him most throughout his life: from The Cure to Massive Attack, by way of Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, or Naked City, using his own beats alongside a few samples. The result sounds industrial, dark at times, trip-hop at others, and even danceable on occasion…
In a constant love-hate relationship with technology, his lyrics use dark humor and social critique to address our connection with it, personal relationships, the end of civilization, and even a zombie holocaust…
